marsela pecanac
Marsela is an activist, organizer, and fundraiser who experienced the siege of Sarajevo in the early ’90s while growing up in Yugoslavia. Her diverse career spans human rights, education, commercial banking, and social impact. She currently oversees Impact banking and nonprofits at Signature Bank in the US. Marsela serves on boards for Rainforest Action Network, the Rose Foundation for Communities and Environment, and Jericho Foundation. She collaborates with Patagonia on the “Blue Heart of Europe” campaign to preserve Europe’s untouched rivers and founded the Atelier for Community Transformation “ACT”.

Zina Besirevic, PHD
Zina earned her Doctorate in Cognition and Development from UC Berkeley, specializing in moral reasoning and trauma’s impact on development. She furthered her studies in Applied Neuroscience at Kings College London. Throughout her career in academia, research, and psychology, she’s emphasized Human Rights and Child Rights. Zina has received awards from the U.S. Congress, U.S. Dept. of Defense, Jean Piaget Society, and UC Chancellor. She’s worked globally, from the U.S. to the Balkans. Now, she’s the Research Director for San Francisco Human Rights Commission, Adjunct Prof. at Berkeley University, and co-founder of MindREDy, focusing on applied psychology research. Passionate about human dignity and healing, Zina, a former skydiver, is now a marathon runner.

Benjamin Kelmendi, MD
Benjamin has always been passionate about utilizing neuroscience to address mental illnesses and trauma. He’s an Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine and co-founded the Yale Program for Psychedelic Sciences. He spearheads research on the therapeutic potential of psychedelic medicines for various psychiatric conditions. Ben leads the first study on psilocybin’s effects on OCD-related brain circuitry and another on MDMA’s impact on PTSD brain activation. Additionally, he co-leads a significant multi-site depression study on psilocybin and is a graduate of MAPS MDMA Therapy Training.

Emina Cengic, MD
Emina, deeply passionate about medicine and psychiatry, navigated between the medical and business worlds after surviving the war in BiH. Initially specializing in clinical immunology, she pivoted to the corporate realm, ascending to Country Director for the pharmaceutical giant, French Aventis, in Belgrade. By 2009, she was back in Sarajevo, taking on various regional management roles across the Balkans. Emina holds an MBA from Texas A&M University-Commerce and has recently served as the managing director for multiple companies.
She’s fervently dedicated to the mental and spiritual healing of the Balkans, believing true healing will arise once individuals reconcile their personal and ancestral traumas.

Filip Velimirovic
Filip is a speaker, activist, and Partnerships manager at QueerTech, a Montreal-based non-for-profit queering the Canadian tech industry. They were born in Belgrade in 1993, and studied political science at Sciences Po Paris. As an activist, they addressed the United Nations about the devastating consequences of the War on Drugs on people, particularly young. Filip is a nature lover, runner, yogi, and a fierce advocate for mass mental health.
